Colour Pop Of The Month: Sunflower Yellow

Colour Pop Of The Month: Sunflower Yellow

Colour Pop Of The Month: Sunflower Yellow
Give your home the wow-factor with the golden glow of Sunflower Yellow.
Autumn has arrived at the new Fervor + Hue store in Wilton Shopping Centre and in the Cornmarket Centre. There are oodles of sunflower colour popping products now in stock to inspire you.

As Nature prepares to ripen into a vibrant golden patchwork, celebrate the seasonal change with a scheme of earthy deep yellow shades, layered with rustic textures across warm woods and patterned weaves.
The radiant, sun-like appearance of sunflowers has led them to be a popular subject for artists down through the centuries.  If you love sunflowers, it is said that you are as warm and radiant as the flower itself.
See the full range of faux but fabulous flowers and berries now instore.
As Autumn arrives, we welcome this wonderful, feel-good yellow into our homes. Whether on the walls with a quirky piece of art, or on the sofa with some cushions, there are many ways of indulging in this happy tone.  When the basic scheme is neutral, with grey furniture and off-white walls, gradually add character with pops of sunflower yellow.
Use in the kitchen to counterbalance a contemporary white or grey kitchen.  It will add warmth in contrast to the otherwise sleek, minimalist kitchen cabinetry.
For rich autumnal cheer, celebrate the joy of cosy by adding cushions and throws in Tweedy Herringbone ochre.  The key is warmth and comfort.  The woven pattern offers relaxing textural interest to this lovely rich deep yellow shade which will look so cosy and comforting during the cooler months of the year.
Most of the meanings associated with sunflowers come from the way in which the flowers turn their heads to follow the sun, signifying loyalty and consistency. Tap into the personality that artwork brings.  Go for a full-on bloom-laden painting…It is a simple way to inject an interesting accent into a room scheme. This happy colour will work beautifully to add welcoming upbeat statement to a hallway.

A firm favourite with its ability to add warmth, the glow of the Sunflower Yellow looks amazing with  blues, greens and plums.
The Fervor + Hue Home Collection is now available instore at the Cornmarket Centre and pictured here, in Wilton Shopping Centre.
Shop online at www.fervorandhue.com and enjoy free delivery on orders over €50.

In The Mood For Colour: Interior Designer Rachel Hobbs

In The Mood For Colour: Interior Designer Rachel Hobbs

July 03, 2022

In The Mood For Colour With Rachel Hobbs
At Fervor + Hue, we are passionate about colour and love to get an insight as to how you are working with your favourite shades to create your own very unique living space.
This month we got the chance to chat with Rachel Hobbs,
rachelhobbsinteriors, Interior Architect and Designer.
Having already done an amazing transformation turning an old farmhouse into a stunning, contemporary haven centered on family life, Rachel’s fabulous creativity is always at the ready.
"Feeling like a colour injection to my house,” Rachel hints at the project that she is currently working on.  Excited at this opportunity to indulge in some adventurous design, one can only wonder what colour scheme Rachel has in mind?

“It has to be from the @curatorpaints.ie Collection” which Rachel explains has been inspired by Ireland’s native Design Community, featuring 29 artisans from crafts and design to art, have a key commonality; they all quote Ireland as their colour muse.

This stunning Irish design Collection of colours holds huge appeal for Rachel- which of these gorgeous rich earthy shades will transform this space?

Rachel loves to talk about colour and design, but when tackling any project, her starting point is always in identifying the function of the room. She will ponder on various options and furniture arrangements to ensure that the space will work to its very best.
“If you have to work with something that you already have, such as a sofa”, then Rachel advises to use this as a starting point for your room design.  “It will have a big say in the overall room both in terms of furniture layout and design finishes such as flooring and colour choices.”
Taking time to think about your project, explore the possibilities and make some plans is also a chance to enjoy the stage of feeling inspired and enthusiastic. Rachel explains that a digital concept board, using Pinterest, is useful when you need to identify what inspires you.  From there, the fun really begins.  A Moodboard, with swatches, samples, patterns, and textures will go on to show you how the colours you are drawn to might work together. “It is important as it presents a real-life glimpse of the finished scheme and the reasoning behind each design decision.  This is particularly useful in keeping you focused if a project is going to take several months or longer.” Rachel advises.
When asked for any hints and tips in choosing colour for a room scheme, Rachel is renowned for her love of teal. “Because of the quality of Irish light, it is wise to be cautious when using true cool blues or any shade with a bluey undertone.”
She can also understand the appeal of neutral or muted colour décor choices especially with a young family onboard. “Sometimes you need the calming effect to balance the visual clutter of kiddies’ books and toys, so the softer backdrop can be most welcome”
Now we must wait and see what the result of Rachel’s design challenge will be.  Meanwhile somewhere on this gallery wall is there another hint of the colour scheme about to unfold.  Keep an eye on the Fervor+Hue Mood For Colour Blog Series when all shall be revealed.
Many thanks Rachel - cant wait to see what the new look for this space will be!

4 Inspiring Garden Colour & Style Ideas.

4 Inspiring Garden Colour & Style Ideas.

April 02, 2022

With so many tempting outdoor furniture options now available, it’s now possible to enjoy your very own outdoor living space whether you have a small garden or a huge plot.  As the first warming rays of spring sunshine appear it is never too early to think how you can make the most of your garden.

At Fervor + Hue, we have been selling garden furniture as part of our Interior Decor Collection for many years now.  Customers have bought these chairs and tables online at www.fervorandhue.com and have been sharing some amazing photos with us.  We would like to say a huge thank you for these.  Inspiring with some cool styling ideas, our customers have mastered the art of outdoor living.

  1. FIND THE BEST SPOT

Define the sunniest and shadiest parts of your garden as seen from dawn to dusk.  This will determine the best areas to position plants and activity areas.

Start with a spring clean. Use a power washer to shift any build up of moss and algae on decking, fencing and paving slabs.  The lawnmower may need a servicing before tackling those first grass cuts of another season.

  1. ADD A POP OF COLOUR WITH SOME GORGEOUS PLANTS

If you have a new garden which is still in the works stage, some key garden chairs with a parasol will work wonders. A table will make an inviting addition. Include some statement pots and plants to add colour and personality.

Use potted plants to soften the green of the lawn or the hard look of paving stone.  Raised flowerbeds are a charming option when space is at a premium.

  1. GARDEN CHAIRS FOR A RELAXING CHILLOUT

Dress the space with stylish garden furniture that will instantly make the garden an inviting and relaxing chill out space.  The type of outdoor furniture we choose is key to full enjoyment of all outdoor living has to offer.

Sometimes it is all about having a place to sit and read or enjoy the sunshine with a good friend plus a cuppa, and so its about finding a few stylish yet comfy individual outdoor chairs.  The Fervor + Hue Millie Garden Chair serves this purpose very well indeed as this seating gives a relaxed feel while offering all the right support. They are a lightweight chair, making them easy to move about as needed. UV resistant treatment ensures that this outdoor furniture will retain it's colour pop clarity in the sunshine.

Paint the fencing for a fresh new look that will create a striking backdrop.

The F+H Metro Chair is another elegant, contemporary design, lightweight and easy to move about. The metal chair leg frame supports a spacious seat with an extra padded cushion for added comfort. This chair works wherever you need them and offers extra seating for dining indoors when needed.

Woven garden chair design achieves an instant weightless feel merging visually with the surrounding outdoor area. This contrasts with solid block chair colours that are inclined to appear starker and more defined which can take over from everything else that is in the garden.  There is the added comfort in that woven design allows the body to breathe naturally.

For a modern theme, mix bright, colourful chairs with wood or stone tables.

Keeping drinks cool is very simple with the clever F+H Binstool. Fill with ice and hey presto, you have a handy drinks storage solution in an instant.

And the clever stuff doesn’t end there...

Have a couple of these stackable  containers on standby to flip over and let the BinStool create extra seating.

Use the BinStool as a quirky side table when lounging in the sunshine to keep drinks within reach.

Do a quick tidy-up at the end of another great evening by using the BinStool to carry everything back to the kitchen

  1. A BISTRO SET

A Bistro set makes a great choice for outdoor spaces where there just is not the room for larger furniture pieces.  The Millie Bistro Set comes in many colours so its easy to find one that works in your garden whether it is a neutral shade or one to add that pop of colour.

The Fervor and Hue Outdoor Furniture collection is now available online at www.fervorandhue.com.

The Metro Chair, €88, black with limited availability in white.

The Binstool, €36, is available in 5 assorted colours

The Millie Garden Chair,€85, Red, Yellow, Grey, Orange plus new for 2022, Midnight Blue and Teal.  Plus we are delighted to offer the Millie Bistro Set, available in May 2022, €299.

Fall in love with your living room all over again by adding some plump new cushions. Even if you’re not starting an entire décor scheme revamp, changing just a few key pieces can achieve a very appealing room transformation.  Watch how quickly your living room sofa or conservatory can become an oasis of calm while luxe drama can strike in the toss of velvet pillow.

The finishing touch use of colour in cushions can play a key role within a décor scheme and is often referred to as the “jewellery of the room”. Every room needs a magic ingredient that takes it from finished to fabulous!

Highly textured fabrics add to the opulent feel of the rich ochre and blue hues which are decadently luxurious yet reassuringly down to earth. Introduce tones of paprika to spice up your scheme.

Style Secret

Wonderfully versatile, these cushions work equally well as part of light and dark schemes. Anchor this rich palette with charcoal or partner with creamy whites for a livelier effect.

Shown here is Tapestry Spice Trail in Red and Blue. Also available in Midnight.

TWEEDY HERRINGBONE CUSHION COLLECTION

The collection based on classic weaves to create the cushion pattern is delivering traditional design but with a fresh twist.  In 2022 it is no surprise that people are craving a sense of comfort, timelessness, and a hint of nostalgia in their homes.  Depending on the living room scheme, these cushions have the flexibility to range from looking neat and tailored to soft and welcoming in wonderful shades from earth and sky.

The colour-fleck thread in the woven herringbone pattern offers rich visual interest in a textured cushion material that equals a striking modern rustic look for today’s home.

Cushion prices range from €18.95, with matching throws €65.

The Teal Rust Check Cushion, available in two size options with matching throw is wonderful for bringing the benefits of the great outdoors into your home. Earthy copper with blue replicates the harmony of land and sky to instil a mellow calm in a room.

Offering a contemporary take on pastels, the Blue Yellow Check is a less sugary and more full-bodied style which could be just enough to lift a neutral scheme.

Insider Guide: Choosing Dining Chairs

Insider Guide: Choosing Dining Chairs

January 07, 2022

INSIDER GUIDE: CHOOSING DINING CHAIRS

The Kitchen has never had so many demands placed on it as is the case in modern homes and getting the chairs right requires patient research. It’s not only about the style of the dining chairs but also the ergonomics and comfort they will provide.

Planning your kitchen layout will naturally need to accommodate such multi-use as cooking, dining and entertaining. It pays to carefully consider the layout, the colour palette, lighting and the materials used to ensure all family action is taken into account.  This will also reflect on a practical level on the choice of chair.

The Right Fit

The table creates an instant focus in most kitchens and so comfortable seating and lighting needs are top priorities. This will enhance the feeling of a wonderfully welcoming space.  An open-plan layout can be zoned for food preparation, everyday living and entertaining.  Use lighting, wall art and a change of flooring to define the different spaces.

To give an idea of what table size you might need,  allow approx. 60cm of space for every person seated at the table and allow 15cm between each diner to move comfortably in and back from the table.

The Right Height

As a rule, the following measurements will offer a useful guide when choosing your dining chairs and table.  Do remember that there isn’t an industrial standard height which can vary between different countries and suppliers.  This makes it very important to check all furniture dimensions before buying furniture online. Comfort is a key factor when choosing kitchen chairs and that is why it is a good idea to check this out first before making a final commitment. Wie love to have customers visit the Fervor + Hue showroom, in the Cornmarket Centre, Cork and do the "bum test".

Take time to jot down the measurements of any existing table or chairs which you are planning on keeping. Getting the match right will enhance the dining experience as guests have room to move elbows and knees.

Take note of the following:

CHAIR SEAT HEIGHT        43cm to 48cm from floor to top of the chair seat

CHAIR ARM HEIGHT        Important if you would like the chairs to slide in            under the table or island counter and where kitchen floor space is compact.

CHAIR BACK HEIGHT       Not too high if kitchen is compact

TABLE HEIGHT                   71cm – 76cm from floor to top of table

ISLAND HEIGHT                 91cm to 1metre approx..

HEIGHT FROM CHAIR SEAT TO TABLE TOP.

Allow minimum 24cm to maximum 30cm with the ideal distance 26cm.

DINING CHAIRS TO EXPRESS YOUR STYLE

Chairs can be classy or casual, identical or random, in a co-ordinating set with your table…or not! Remember that mismatched seating is perfectly acceptable because it is flexible and casual and offers an opportunity to make a visual  design theme statement. It will work once there is a consistent element such as the material, colour or the upholstery.

RUSTIC REVISITED

Daisy T Dining Chair, available in 5 different colour options, €78, offers a compact armchair with armrests. Great choice if your favourite dinner parties are the ones where guests love to chat and linger. This is also a stackable chair which is useful if you have an extendable table allowing you to accommodate more diners when needed. Stack away the extras until needed.

Easy Elegance!

The Celine Chair is a strikingly simple design yet is remarkably clever as it offers all the comfort and support of an armchair. Use as a contemporary alternative to the traditional carver dining chair.

COLOUR POP DINING CHAIRS

The choice of kitchen dining chair colour can also have an exciting impact on the look and the appeal of the overall kitchen.

It has never been easier to give your kitchen a makeover and you don’t even need to lift a paint brush. The Eames Style Padded Dining Chair offers function with style and will also work to inject that uplifting pop of colour.

Decorating The Christmas Tree

Decorating The Christmas Tree

December 08, 2021

DECORATING THE TREE

No 1- Consider Your Room Decor Style & Colour Scheme

For a beautifully professional looking Christmas tree take a good look at the room where the tree will stand.  Decorations in some of the colours which already appear in the room décor will have the most spectacular impact. This will ensure that the tree creates a striking centre piece which sits seamlessly in the room.

For this glam tree sprinkle a liberal dusting of icy touches for an enchanted white Christmas. Sparkling lights, delicate blues and frosted finishes create a snow globe scene.

No 2 - Introducing an Accent Colour

Soft Gold is the Accent colour on the tree but is also worked into the room setting with cushions, gift wrap and a clear vase filled with baubles on the coffee table.

No 3 - Getting The Right Fit

When choosing a real tree, select one that you can see completely before buying and having it netted for transport.  It is the only way to ensure evenly dispersed branches and will take all the hard work out of setting up the tree when you get home...plus you can be sure that the height is right.

Trees come in many different styles. This scandi-style hanger twig tree works where space is limited.  It is also a stylish option if the main tree is elsewhere in the house.  The exposed brickwork makes the perfect backdrop.

No. 4 The Base Of The Tree

Give this thought before the gifts are placed under the tree-as this is how it will probably look on December 26 and every day thereafter until you take the tree down. Co-ordinated gift-wrapped pressies will look fab for the big day but options include a tree skirt  which will complement any style from rustic to luxury once you chose a pattern to work with your overall theme. Available in either fabric or woven raffia.

No 5. Lighting from top to toe

Safety is everything when setting up the tree.  Access to a power point to avoid trailing flexes is an important consideration.  Positioning the tree near the fire is the stuff the movies are made of! In reality only put it there if the fireplace is not in use.

The lights have to go on first.  And spread the light evenly .

Work with 2 to 3 sets depending to the height and width of the tree rather than one huge set.  Far easier to manoeuvre evenly around the trunk and along each of the branches.

Multi-function lights are great if you have a second tree in the hall or conservatory.  However the constant flickering action can be uncomfortable especially if watching tv.

No 6. Buy lights with a clear cable.

Lines of black cable take work to bury into the foliage as otherwise the finished tree looks untidy.

Black lighting cable lines look stark and cluttered on all but the deepest of green trees - and of course perfect on a black christmas tree!

Delicate sparkling finishes on the baubles loose out in the battle of black cable clutter.

Just divine! little twinkling lights in the midst of the foliage with little or no cable in sight.

No 7. Experiment with colour lights especially in a room decorated in deep jewel shades.  Also works well in an older rustic setting.

No  8. Baubles On A String

Again, bauble strings might need to be trimmed off and replaced with lengths of florist wire.  This allows the bauble to be attached to the middle of the branch without trying to slide it over pine needles from the tip.

No 9. Heavy Baubles Can Drag And Possibly Break Small Lighter Branches

When displaying baubles avoid hanging those large and naturally heavier ones out close to the tip of the branches which can be the weaker point. Keep large plain baubles closer to the tree spine and usually no higher than mid-way up on the tree.

No. 10 Medium and small baubles can fill out the gaps and add visual depth when placed mid way and onto the small branch tips

No 11. Now work with your favourites – those pieces that mean something special and prioritize at eye-level.

No 12 Glass droplets add a dainty finishing touch which will also capture the sparkle of the tree lights.

No 13. A Snowy Scandi-tree Can Be Dressed Completely In White Including Wooden Decorations

No 14. Introduce seasonal reds with bunches of berries instead of baubles.

No 15.  Candy canes Add festive Fun & colour

No16.  Festive Figurines standing around at the tree base are the perfect finishing touch for your christmas decor theme.

THE GARDEN ROOM

THE GARDEN ROOM

May 11, 2021

With the garden now a major part of our home life, blur the boundaries between indoor and outside by introducing leafy greens and natural feel textures to breathe new life into your living space.  Greens work so well as we are used to seeing them in nature and by embracing this colour option it will achieve a calming yet airy mood.

LINEN WEAVE FLORAL CLASSIC DUCK EGG

Timeless Natural Weave Fabrics For that Feel good Factor

Add natural tactile finishes onto your seating with a mix of linen weave fabrics.  Generous layering of florals and plains will work to emphasise that indoor/outdoor feeling.  If your room scheme already centres around calmer, more earthy tones, then an informal mix of bolder and brighter shades, as inspired by the flowers growing outside, will work to deliver that instant feel good factor.

LINEN WEAVE RASPBERRY CUSHION

Linen Weave Cushions in Raspberry and Lime to add a cheeky fruity note to the scheme……………

LINEN WEAVE LIME CUSHION

LINEN WEAVE FLORAL CLASSIC NATURAL MULTI CUSHION

New season, new look

A change of cushion is often a simple and inexpensive way to transform a room with the arrival of each new season.  While the touch of cool linen weave fabrics is welcome in the height of summer yet come the first sign of autumn our instinct for something more cosy kicks in.  Let the rich and indulgent feel of velvet take over.  Nestle those striking floral patterns in between generous layers of plain piped velvets such as raspberry, ruby, orange and soft gold from the F+H collection.

Look to the natural world for inspiration when making lighting choices.

Introduce a mix of ambient and task lighting to make your room feel like a well-loved home. The classic tripod with its natural linen weave shade and beech wood legs can be used as either a table or floor lamp option.

CLASSIC TRIPOD TABLE LAMP ML808TL

JOY FABRIC CONE LAMPSHADE

An oversized pendant in a woven texture adds another level of visual interest yet will not block the flow of light.

MARSHALL TABLE LAMP BLK MARSTL1

Where space might be more limited, a neat reading lamp with a sturdy metal base will work just as well.  The natural fabric finish shade is still the perfect finishing touch with this theme.

SUMMER FLOWERS COLLECTION

SUMMER FLOWERS COLLECTION

May 01, 2021

Colour can be used in many ways to aid that sense of relaxation and escape from the outer world.  Blue, in any of its variety of shades does this very well.  It is part of our every waking hour from the soft blue at dawn to the bright blue of a mid -summer’s day and the finale of dramatic midnight sky filled with starlight.  This collection captures the promise of each new day.

The soft dusky duck-egg blue background makes it an appealing colour to use in the living room.  Layer with the different depths of blue as inspired from the “Summer Flowers” print itself.  The use of textural velvet in subtle blue tones will create an elegant finish while the contemporary floral print will keep the overall finish very easy to live with.

With the promise of each new day, comes that upbeat lift when warming yellow sunshine arrives on the scene.  Play with this notion by introducing that pop of rich saffron as an engaging accent in the room scheme.

Duck-egg blue, with its hint of grey provides a calming mellow shade.  As the background colour on the “Summer Flowers” print cushion, it will never appear cold thanks to the luxurious chenille velvet texture.  It is a classic country colour but given a modern twist with the quirky upbeat flower design.

The Celine Chair would be the perfect seating option with its graceful curving lines in tune with the subtle elegance of the room scheme.

F+H FIESTA COLLECTION

F+H FIESTA COLLECTION

April 12, 2021

A collection based on the notion that life isn’t about waiting for summer to happen and that we can do much to enjoy the everyday by the choices we make when decorating our homes.

Rose Quartz, Copper with glimpses of teal and midnight instantly bring warmth to create a very inviting living space…an instinct that we naturally follow here in this part of the world.

Do not be afraid to experiment with the colour and decorative pattern that this look embraces.  The deep rich and captivating shades are easy on the eye yet exciting in the combination of working warm spicy tones with deep blues.

Choose a hero piece of art to capture the mood that works for you.

Here the hand-painted canvas Elephant Copper makes a statement that is powerful, indulgent and vivid.

Shades of earth and sky from the picture work to inspire a room colour scheme. The earthy oranges and coppers hold the stabilising effect that nature itself offers while the blues bring a calming yet refreshing balance.  Hints of saffron and ochre echo the colours of the sunset sky.

Rose Quartz in velvet is one of the key accent colours giving this collection its visual appeal.  The hint of pink works as an unpredictable yet calming neutral to complement the rich blue and orange shades.

If you are still unsure about using bold pattern, let the wall canvas “Wild West Hero” set a quirky and upbeat mood.

Rich coppery tones offset with an array of beautiful blues in rich textures such as tapestry and velvet.  The patterns are playfully woven with tints of blue and orange making it irresistible when it comes to piling on as many plain cushions in the full array of those colours cushions as possible. Textures are important for bringing this scheme to life and velvets work to show off the depth of the colours used in the patterned cushions, Fiesta Orange, and Midnight Spice Trail.

Pictured here are Velvet Piped Cushions In Midnight and Copper

When decorating with dramatic colours, include tones of the colours, to achieve a more relaxed feel.  It also helps to avoid a scheme appearing to have been created by sticking rigidly to certain colours only which was all too often the outcome in a previous era of home décor.

Pictured here: Velvet Piped Orange

Complete this exuberant and unique look with pools of warm glow lamplight.  The Metro Table Lamp with its gracefully curved shape, and linen fabric shade will add an informal style note to complement the Earth & Sky Collection.  It does feature an adjustable head making it the ideal choice to work as a reading lamp also.
